Alloy 904L that is referred to as UNS N08904 is the super austenitic SS that is developed for average to high corrosion resistant at wider ranges of processing atmosphere. The combination of nickel and high chromium in addition to other alloying elements like copper and molybdenum is assuring excellent resistance to corrosion.
With the high alloyed chemistry, 4.5% of molybdenum and 25% of nickel, 904L is providing excellent stress corrosion cracking resistance, general corrosion, pitting. 904L SS was developed originally in order to withstand atmospheres that are having diluted sulfuric acid. Also, it provides very good resistance to inorganic acid like hot phosphoric acid and in the organic acids. Alloy 904L SS is welded easily by the help of standard shop fabrication technique.
