Manufacturing process of stainless steel 309 welded tubes

The high quality tube that we made is manufactured using a flat strip of metal. This strip is turned into a tube. To make the tube a series of rollers are used which roll the metal strip into tube structure. It is then joined or weld after which we get a tube of desired thickness. These tubes are welded using non-destructive testing methods. They are drawn down by sinking or plug drawing. This creates a coiled tube of long length. Our main manufacturing process includes cold drawing and strip welding. However, other process is also included at the end of manufacturing. These include cleaning, annealing, straightening, cutting and deburring, ndt testing, printing, packaging and shipment.

Other process of stainless steel 309 welded tubes

We have high welding capabilities where we use single torch tig welding which gives process stability and reliability to our products. We also possess multi-torch welding for various configurations. For special applications we use plasma welding options where we use range of gas mixtures to obtain the specific customer requirements.

The drawing process is performed to change the shape and size of stainless steel 309 welded tubes. The annealing process is performed to obtain the microstructure of tube. This makes the material hard and brittle. The tubes undergo controlled temperature exposure upto 1200c. This gives a uniform shape to tube. To get the fines tubes variety of furnaces are used where heat treatment is not done.

Standard inspections are then done on tubes to ensure customer’s requirements. These inspections include visual inspection, dimensional, laser micrometer and positive material inspection. The mechanical properties of the tubes are tested in laboratory where tube samples are tested for surface checks. The results acquired from tests are specified and recorded in the certificates. If the tests don’t give suitable results then further tests are performed which includes NDT methods.

Moreover, destructive tests are also performed such as hardness, flare and bending test. Polishing and electro polishing are the two optional processes performed on stainless steel 309 welded tubes. We then print relevant product information on tubes. This includes information such as heat number, part number and dimensions. They are finally packed using highest quality packaging material and make ready for shipments.
