Alloy information-

Alloy 309 that is referred to as UNS S30900 is austenitic stainless steel that is developed for use in the greater temperature corrosion resistance installations and applications. The alloy is resisting oxidation to 1038 Deg C under the non-cyclic conditions. The thermal cycling is reducing the oxidation resistance to temperature 1010 Deg C. Due to greater content of chromium and low content of nickel alloy elements, 309 alloy is used in the sulfur containing atmosphere to 1000 Deg C. The alloy isn’t recommended for use at the greater carburizing atmospheres that is exhibiting moderate resistant to absorption of carbon. 309 SS alloy is used in slightly cementing, nitriding, oxidizing as well as in thermal cycling atmosphere. When the alloy is heated at the temperature 1202 to 1742 Deg F, it becomes subjected to the sigma phase precipitations. The degree of toughness will be restored by the perfect solution as annealing treatment at temperature 1100 to 1150 Deg C.
