Alloy description :

Stainless Steel 317L Welded Pipes is a low carbon version of grade 317 stainless steel. This alloy has the same high strength and corrosion resistance. It but can produce stronger welds due to the low carbon content. It is molybdenum contain low carbon austenitic stainless steel with increased addition of chromium, nickel, and molybdenum. By this it gives better corrosion resistance and increased resistance to chemical attack for sulfurous, acetic, formic, citric and tartaric acids. It also provides resistance to sensitizations when welded and higher creep, stress to rapture, and tensile strength at elevated temperature. It is non magnetic in the anneals condition but may become slightly magnetic after welding.

Manufacturing process :

Stainless Steel 317L Welded Pipes require low speed and constant feeds to reduce its tendency to work harden. This steel is tougher than another grade with the long stringy chip however using chip breaker is recommended. Welding can be performed using most of the conventional fusing and resistance methods. The oxyacetylene welding should be avoided. Conventional hot working processes can be performed. The material should be heated to 1149 to 1260 degree C.

To optimize corrosion resistance a post work annealing is recommended. Shearing, stamping, heading and drawing are possible with this grade of Stainless Steel 317L Welded Pipes and post work annealing is recommended to eliminate internal stress.
