Stainless Steel 316L Welded Pipes are also known from its standard designation UNS S31603. These pipes are formed with the most common austenitic stainless steel alloy adding up with molybdenum content. Furthermore, it contains higher nickel and low carbon content also. The molybdenum content improves the corrosion resistance basically in chloride containing environments. However, this content also demonstrates overall corrosion resistant properties as compared to other grades especially with regard to the crevice and pitting corrosion in chloride environments.

The low carbon content ensures immunity from sensitization. The austenitic structure of these pipes exhibits superior creep, tensile and stress to rupture strength at soaring temperatures. Furthermore, it also provides superior toughness, even down to cryogenic temperatures. These are heat resistance pipes that offer good oxidation resistance in irregular services to 870 degree C to 925 degree C. These grades of pipes are not hardened by thermal treatment.

Therefore these are both hot and cold worked. The hot working operation is performed in the range of 1150-1260 degree. While on the other hand the cold working operation is done by using common operation such as drawing, shearing and stamping methods. The pipes are processed through solution treatment at a temperature of 1010-1120 degree C and further get cooled. With the use of standard fusion and resistance methods, the pipes achieve superior weldability. Due to lower carbon content, this grade of pipes is easily machined.
